Some of you may remember the hit song from the 1960s with the chorus, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love. It's the only thing that there's just too little of.” The same thing could probably be said for today. It would seem that sometimes love is in short supply.

TRANSFORMED LIVES. Have you ever read God's Word and thought, "Ow! That hurts!" In Philippians 2:14, God, through Paul, commands the Christians in Philippi, saying, "Do all things without complaining and disputing." OUCH! Sadly, from time to time, the sin nature gets the best of even us who have been spiritually born again. All too often, even true followers of Jesus Christ give in to a grumbling spirit. The Israelites, during the exodus years, also had a problem with complaining. God saved them from slavery, delivered their first-born children from certain death, and blessed them greatly in many ways. Their response? They murmured against Moses and Aaron when water and food. Yet God said, "How long shall this wicked congregation grumble against Me?" (Num. 14:27). Israel's complaining revealed they didn't truly trust God. What of the Philippians? God saved them, transformed their lives, blessed them in countless ways, yet they, too, gave in to a grumbling spirit. The real issue was that they were living "in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation" but they were not showing themselves to be "children of God" (2:15). Their walk with the Lord was not "blameless and harmless" and therefore they could not "shine as lights in the world" (2:15). Jesus told His disciples, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matt. 5:16). By living a spiritually transformed life, the light of our lives will give reason for those still living in darkness to seek Jesus Christ. God sent John the Baptist into the world "to bear witness of the Light (Jesus), that all through him might believe" (John 1:7). John's personal testimony, by his life and lips, drew sinners to Jesus. So today, genuine Christians have the opportunity to live radically transformed lives so that our "perverse generation" will see, seek, and find the Lord Jesus Christ.
