Commissioners receive update on bridge project

Body
Rooks County Commissioners John Ruder, Greg Balthazor and Tim Berland met with road and bridge supervisor Rich Bouchey during the regular weekly meeting held on Tuesday, February 9th. Bouchey first presented them with the low monthly fuel bid from Farmers Union Elevator in the amount of $10,950.00. Next, Bouchey informed the commissioners that KDOT had accepted the 90/10-bridge project at 8 and G Road for the County. An email was received from the civil engineer with the Bureau of Reclamations about the dam spillway chute replacement project. The mower tractor the department had purchased was picked up in Oklahoma last week and is now at the shop. Commissioner Tim Berland asked Bouchey about utilizing lease programs for the department’s equipment, which have been looked into. Bouchey then talked about getting prison crew assistance to work at the landfill this spring, as well as borrowing the space heaters from the sheriff’s department to help keep some of the landfill’s equipment warm during this cold snap. The commissioners and Bouchey then discussed the request they have received about limited access or closing J Terrace Road, due to people dumping trash. Bouchey will check it out and talk to the landowners who made the request about options. It was also brought up to check out the road dip on J Terrace Road to see if anything can be done to make the road higher in that low water area.
