The Stockton Wrestling Club competed this past week in the Phillipsburg Open at Phillipsburg on Saturday, January 9th. Four wrestlers with the club placed in the top three, with Cole Flower, once again, placing first.

The 2021 Mid-Continent League Basketball Tournament is set to begin this Saturday with the play-in games. With COVID-19 still an issue, the girls’ play-in games will be moved to Plainville, while the boys’ will be held in Stockton. Four games will be played at each site with action beginning at 3:00 p.m. at both locations in each of the two gyms being utilized. A second game at each site will follow at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has announced the 2021 Sub-State Basketball Assignments. Stockton, who competes in Class 1A - Division 1 has been assigned the Osborne sub-state, along with Atwood-Rawlins County, Downs-Lakeside, Kensington-Thunder Ridge, Mankato-Rock Hills, Oberlin-Decatur Community and Osborne. Substate games will be played on February 25, 26, and March 4-6.

Looking at the roster, one would not expect the Stockton Tigers to have much of a chance against a much bigger Norton Bluejay team. However, the roster doesn’t indicate the athleticism and competitive spirit the Tiger boys have, and although they were missing starter Cameron Lindsey last Friday, Stockton gave the visiting Bluejays all they wanted, but came up three points short, falling to Norton 44-41.

The Stockton Junior High wrestling season will open next Thursday, January 21, when the Tigers travel to Plainville. Action will begin at 4:00 p.m. Stockton will then be on the road to Oberlin and Hoxie, before having a home match on February 11.

The various media outlets have released their post-season 8-Man - Division 1 football honors for the 2020 season and Stockton Tiger football players, Rylan Basart, a junior, and sophomore Justin Knoll, have made the lists as place kickers.
