In the Great Commission from Matthew 28:1920, Jesus tells his disciples, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” It is from these verses that our continued study of the book of Acts is centered.

Happy Sunday from McReynolds Farms! Last weekend in Kingman, we embarked on the pilgrimage to the Homecoming parade and game, expecting the usual small-town charm, and I was not disappointed. The stars of the show were the Farmer's nephew, Andrew, who was tackling like a pro, and the niece, Ava, confidently strutting as a Homecoming queen candidate.

There is a purpose for having laws. Laws are needed to do everything from keeping us safe to guiding what should and shouldn't be done as we grow from childhood to adulthood. A lawless land would be characterized by violence, immorality, and chaos. Likewise, the laws of the church provide a guide that points out our sins, so we can repent and turn to God and lead a right life. It was, and still is, impossible to obey the law entirely, but that is our goal.

What does it take for a man to get to heaven? What would you say? In our continued journey through the book of Acts this week, Paul, Barnabas, and other disciples, in their preaching in Antioch, confronted those who were raising the question of whether the Gentiles had to adhere to the laws of Moses. The test following these laws was circumcision.
