JEALOUSY. It sadly affects everyone - young and old, male and female, married and unmarried. Most of the time, human jealousy tends to result from rather petty or trivial issues. But what's interesting is that the Bible tells us God is also jealous. When God delivered Israel from Egypt in 1446 BC, He gathered them together at Mt. Sinai to give them His Law. With Moses up on top of the mountain, God's booming voice began speaking His Law to the people down below. The second of the Ten Commandments that He spoke was, 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image' (Exodus 20:4). In other words, God insisted that they make no image or statue to worship or revere in a spiritual sense. But then God gives His reason for this command, saying, 'For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments' (20:5-6). This was a truly sobering experience for the Jews who were there. Exodus 20:18-19 says, 'Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses, 'You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.'' They understood that Jehovah God is the only true God because He is wholly holy. He will not tolerate His people worshiping anything or anyone else as a deity. This command is repeated in Exodus 34:14 - 'you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.' What does this mean for us who truly have God as our God? It means He's jealous for our love and zealous to love us in return. It means we're on His mind, under His protection, and that one day, He'll take us to be with Him forevermore.

Sometimes, a message or sermon just needs to come from the heart. You can plan and prepare all you want, but God may have other plans, and the Holy Spirit will place a message on your heart. It may be a message that He wants you to “take to the world.” Such was the case Sunday for Pastor Matt.
