New fire pit installed at Stockton City Park

Those who enjoyed the Swing Into Summer Festival and Car Show this past Saturday, June 15th, at the Stockton City Park may have noticed the new fire pit. The old fire pit, which was installed in 2018 when Stockton Chamber of Commerce Director Jayne Prockish wrote a Heartland Community grant for the project, had seen better days due to the constant use of the area for hot dog and marshmallow roasts, public events, and meeting place for friends.
HASMET SHAH, JIM O’GRADY,AND JEZZ RUSH installed the new fire pit at the Stockton City Park on Friday, June 14th, just in time for the summer activities.

I-70 reopened

Eastbound I-70 has reopened between WaKeeney and Hays in northwest Kansas.

The roadway has been cleared of crashes; however, areas of reduced visibility from blowing dust are still possible. Drivers should slow down, use caution, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

The Rooks County Commissioners met with Andrea Cross, Development Director for Options, for a yearly update on their organization and to receive her budget request from Rooks County for the 2025 year. The organization receives federal and state grants, foundations, donations, and city and county support.

Commissioners approve 2023 City audit

At the Stockton City Commission meeting on Tuesday, June 4th, the commissioners received the 2023 audit report from Kim Bollig of Adams Brown. She reviewed the requirements and recommendations for the City’s accounting system before the commissioners approved the 2023 audit report as presented.

The 2024 Kansas wheat harvest has begun

The combines and custom cutters rolled into southern Kansas during the first week of June. Kansas Wheat, the website that is a joint venture of the Kansas Wheat Commission and the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers, says this year’s harvest started earlier than usual because the wheat has matured early, plus the farmers were trying to beat the upcoming storms.
