After president Chad Sterling called the Stockton Unified School District No. 271 Board of Education meeting to order on Monday, August 11th, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, the Stockton Junior High Stuco members gave a presentation about the National Leadership Conference they attended in June. Next, the board members approved the Consent Agenda before approving Gidget Mosiman and Laura Moffet for the college tuition assistance agreement. They also voted to accept the bid from the Loyd Group LLC to perform the audits for USD No. 271 for the 2025, 2026, and 2027 years as presented.

A special meeting of the USD #271 Board of Education was held on Wednesday, July 16th at 7:30 p.m. The discussion with board members Chad Sterling, Michael Carpenter, BJ Hoeting, Jessy Maddy (via phone), Ginger Riffel, and superintendent Dr. Angela McCollum dealt with a cooperative sports agreement for the 2026-2027 school year. Also present were Kyle Benoit, Ali Keller, and Brandon Kuhn from USD #269, USD #269 athletic director Toni Bristow, Dr. Brian Pekarek, superintendent of USD #269, and Krista Muir and Janet Kuhlmann, co-athletic directors for USD #271.

In the Thank You ad to all the sponsors and volunteers of Red FEST 2025, located elsewhere in this issue, the Stock Town Foundation also announced the date for Red FEST 2026, set for Saturday, July 18th.

Governor Laura Kelly announced Tuesday, July 29, $25 million for 30 projects to improve intersections and roads across the state. The projects were selected for funding through the Kansas Department of Transportation's (KDOT) City Connecting Link Improvement Program (CCLIP).

The Rooks County Commissioners spent most of their regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, August 5th, touring the Rooks County Fairgrounds. Still, before they met at the site, they conducted business at the courthouse.

At the regular monthly meeting of the Stockton Unified School District No. 271 Board of Education held on Monday, July 7th the members approved the board organi-zation and appointments for the 2024-2025 school year as follows: Chad Sterling to serve as president; Michael Carpenter to serve as vice president; Rhonda Rogers to serve as deputy clerk; Anita Conger to serve as treasurer; Terry Cikanek to serve as attorney; Marsha Hrabe to serve as KPERS representative; Dr. McCollum to serve as food service rep, food service hearing officer, compliance coordinator for federal programs, and Title 9 coordinator/ sexual harassment; Dr.

Beginning in this week’s Sentinel dated Thursday, August 14, is the printing of the Delinquent Tax List for Rooks County. Required by state law for publication in the final three weeks of August, the annual delinquent tax list contains the names of those Rooks County taxpayers who have not paid their property taxes in 2025.

When Kambree’s dad was diagnosed with cancer when she was five years old, she decided to donate her hair to Locks of Love to help with cancer research. Now, four years later, Kambree is still giving back, this time by raising funds for the Rooks County Cancer Council.

Two kids from Stockton recently achieved remarkable success in the Muttin Bustin' competition at the Phillipsburg Rodeo in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Not only did they excel in the event, but they also share a special bond as cousins!
