Resignations accepted at Monday’s School Board meeting

The resignations of Superintendent Sarah Armstrong and school board member Thelma Berland were accepted by the USD 271 Board of Education members at the regular monthly meeting held on Monday, March 18th.

Berland’s resignation is immediately effective, with Armstrong to finish the regular school year.

A story of the meeting will be published in the March 28th issue of the Stockton Sentinel.

Senator Marshall secures big win for ranchers who suffered losses in winter wildfires

U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., commends USDA for announcing changes to the Emergency Livestock Assistance Program (ELAP) that provide additional assistance to farmers who suffer wildfire losses of winter stored forage during the winter months.

Stockton Sophomores win IXL competition!

From January 29th to February 23rd classrooms across Kansas participated in IXL's Sunflower State Sprint Competition to see who could answer the most questions correctly. The Stockton High School Sophomore class WON this competition! There were 149 classrooms across the state they competed against including Topeka High School, Shawnee Mission West High, Lansing High School, Goddard High School, and more! Stockton competed against some very large schools and came out on top!

Kayla Atkins to perform at Stockton Church of Restoration

The Stockton Church of Restoration is presenting Kayla Atkins in concert on Sunday, March 24th at 6:30 p.m. Atkins is a world-renowned worship concert vocalist appearing worldwide in Nashville, Tenn., Pennsylvania, Germany, Israel, Italy, PWOC military conferences, school assemblies, and worship services.

KAYLA ATKINS will be performing at the Stockton Church of Restoration on Sunday, March 24th.

Daughter of SHS grad wins Space Force award

Lt. Col. Jessica “Jess” (Stewart) Pratt was the recent recipient of the Polaris Award for Connection given to a Guardian in the Space Force who best represents that core Guardian value. She received her reward at the 2024 AFA Warfare Symposium held in Aurora, Colo. on February 12-14.

KBI arrests Phoenix man connected to 1982 murder

RENO COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) arrested a Phoenix man connected to a cold case homicide that occurred in Hutchinson nearly 42 years ago. The suspect was arrested for his role in the 1982 murder of Michael McKeown. He was brought back to Kansas and booked into the Reno County Jail on Wednesday morning.

The Rooks County Commission started its weekly meeting on Tuesday, February 27th, with two executive sessions to discuss attorney/client privileges with county attorney Danielle Muir. There was no further discussion when they returned to the open meeting, so they turned their attention to the next item on the agenda: an update from highway supervisor Eric Biggs and Tim Colburn.

Bridge construction starting on K-9 in Phillips County

The first of two bridge projects along K-9 in Phillips County was expected to begin this week. The Kansas Department of Transportation project will replace the bridge over Wolf Creek, located approximately 3.5 miles east of Logan.
