Area fall harvest update

As of Monday, October 23rd, the area milo harvest is approximately 80% complete, while the corn and bean harvests are in the books for this year. The Stockton Farmers Union Elevator has 305,000 bushels of milo, 135,000 bushels of corn, and 10,000 bushels of beans. Woodston Coop has 220,000 bushels of milo, 170,000 bushels of corn, and 25,000 bushels of beans.

School board receives updates from superintendent and principals at meeting

The summer program math students were first on the agenda at the regular Stockton USD 271 Board of Education

meeting on Tuesday, October 9th. After they recited the Pledge of Allegiance, they told the board members what they

liked about the program.

 

The board members then approved the Consent Agenda before superintendent Sarah Armstrong gave an update on

the NARCAM policy.

Sales tax figures for the Stockton City Pool

The one-cent sales tax for the Stockton City Swimming Pool began on January 1st, 2017. The new pool opened that summer on Tuesday, July 25th. The generated tax increase was estimated between $13,500.00 to $14,500.00 a month and would more than cover the bond payments for the pool. Since then, the sales tax has been increasing steadily to more than cover the payments.

County holds several executive sessions

The Rooks County Commission meeting on Tuesday, October 10th, started with an executive session with emergency management director Butch Post at his request to discuss non-elected personnel. After the session, Post gave the commissioners an update on the County’s emergency operations plan.
