THE CITY OF STOCKTON recently installed two new school crossing lights on U.S. Highway 183. The other set of school crossing lights, that have been serving the community for several years, is located on U.S. Highway 24. A noticeable difference in the two sets of lights is the new ones are solarpowered. The flashing lights are programmed to turn on one half hour before school begins, and will turn back on again after school ends for approximately 20 minutes. Take note that the speed limit when the lights are flashing is 20 mph. The new lights were tested on Thursday, August 25th, just in time for the start of the new school year.

28 Aug 1880: We expected to receive a report of the wedding which happened at Plainville this week, but it has not come to hand. Our reporter, the register of deeds, whom we commissioned for that purpose, has not yet returned, which leads us to believe that he has been the victim of foul play, or hasn’t recovered from his drunk.

Jerry Moran tours new Solomon Valley Manor

“ON MONDAY, AUGUST 8TH, I toured the site of the new Solomon Valley Manor nursing home being built in Stockton. The existing nursing home facility provides quality care and health services for seniors in the surrounding community and it is great to see the construction of this new center which will improve quality of life for the residents of this home. Thank you to Solomon Valley Manor Administrator Amanda Atkisson for giving me the tour, as well as Stockton City Commissioner Bob Becker for joining us and providing additional input on the ways in which this center serves Kansans in the area.”—U.S. Senator Jerry Moran Pictured are (from left): Stockton City Commissioner Bob Becker, Senator Jerry Moran, Solomon Valley Manor Administrator Amanda Atkisson and Daniel Booles, from Parkway Construction. Jerry Clarke, owner of the Ness County News: “I read the article in your paper about the Linotype and found it very interesting. My dad, John Clarke, learned how to type on that very machine while working for my grandfather, D.C. Clarke, who owned the Times before selling it to Harlan Lill.”
