Do you believe that God has a plan for your life? Many people struggle with this because they may try to do things independently. But it is evident in the Bible that God wants us to trust Him, seek His will, and then trust Him to do what He says He will do. Proverbs 28:26 says, “He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.” Who do you trust?

DEBATING A DONKEY. We all enjoy a good debate. After all, I'm right, and you're wrong... or so we think. That was Balaam in Numbers 22-24. He comes across in God's Word as thinking that he was right. However, his debate opponent was none other than God Himself. The nation of Israel had come to the end of 40 years of wandering around the arid Sinai wilderness and was about to enter the Promised Land of Israel. His fear skyrocketed when the Moabite king, Balak, saw the huge multitude of Israelites approaching. Sensing defeat, he sent messengers to a diviner named Balaam and offered to pay him richly if he would curse Israel so that the Moabites could defeat them. It appears Balaam was a pagan, false prophet. However, in Numbers 22:18, he told the Moabites, 'I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God.' So it's debatable whether or not Balaam was a true follower of Jehovah God. What we know for sure is thatBalaamlovedmoney more than he loved God. He straight-out disobeyed God by going with Moabite messengers to visit King Balak (22:19-22). How did God respond? With His anger kindled against Balaam, He sent 'the Angel of the LORD' (the pre-incarnate Son of God, 22:23) to oppose him. He then struck Balaam with spiritual blindness while giving Balaam's donkey a clear vision to see His avenging Angel. In Numbers 22:28, God caused the donkey to ask, 'What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?' But remarkably, Balaam debated his donkey, saying, 'Because you have abused me. I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would kill you!' Despite the humor we see in this event, the real lesson is that we can't possibly out-debate God. He is right. Always. His Word is right. Always. When the donkey saw the Angel the 3rd time, she bowed to the earth (22:27). Yet, still today, mankind refuses to bow the knee. May God grant us the humility to be as wise as Balaam's donkey!

March 10th, 1921 - TO ASK FOR BIDS FOR NEW COURTHOUSE: At the meeting of the County Commissioners this week, it was voted to ask for bids again on the new courthouse. After very carefully going over the situation with Mr. Squires, the architect, and a number of contractors, the county commissioners have every reason to believe that building material is down to the low mark it will be for several years and that at this time is the most suitable time to let the contract if bids are submitted as low as they have every reason to think they will be. The date for letting the contract has been set for May 10th if everything is favorable and suitable bids are submitted. A few changes in the plans and specifications are being made by the architect, and within a short time, they will be ready for the contractors to figure on the building. The new building will be erected on the lots east of the public library, which was donated by the Stockton businessmen. The present site of the old courthouse was at one time conceded by all to be the logical place for the new high school.
