Deer and coyotes and cows, oh my!

On Monday, Nov. 2nd, at 5:51 p.m., Jane Ileen Anderson, 56, of Hays, was heading west on U.S. 24 near 27 Rd., when she struck a deer. The front of her 2015 Subaru Outback had extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene. Anderson, who was properly restrained, did not report any injuries.

Deer Featured in “Shock-tober” Accident Reports

On October 2nd at 9:00 a.m., Lori Ann Morgan, 56, of Woodston, was traveling west on U.S. Highway 24 when she struck a deer. Morgan was driving a 2006 Chevy Uplander van that sustained damage to the front end and driver’s side quarter panel. She was wearing a seatbelt, and no injuries were reported.

Deer continue to cause problems for area drivers

On September 17, at 8:08 p.m., Irene Kats, age 77, of Spring Hill, was eastbound on U.S. 24 near 10 Rd. when she struck a deer. Kats was not injured nor was her passenger, 78-year-old Sherlyn Kats. Both were wearing seatbelts. The couple’s 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee had disabling damage to the front end and had to be towed away.

On July 7, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Tammy Lynn Schroeder, 44, of Hill City, was traveling west on K-18 Highway near 16 Road when she struck a deer. The 2005 Dodge Caravan she was driving sustained damage to the front and driver’s side. Neither the driver nor her passengers, Breeal Rodriguez, 27, and Kayleigh Rodriguez, 17, both of Hill City, were injured. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Deer accidents make up majority of this week’s sheriff’s report

On May 30 at 11:49 p.m., Garret Joseph Ludwig, 31, of Stockton, was driving south on 3 Road near A Road when he lost control and rolled the 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup he was driving. Alcohol contributed to this accident that totaled Ludwig’s vehicle. Fortunately he was properly restrained in a seatbelt.

Deer accidents dominate this week’s sheriff’s report

On Saturday, April 4, at 1:53 a.m., Trevor Vandegrift, 20, of Ness City, was heading east on X Rd. between 2 Rd. and 3 Rd. when he swerved to miss a cow or deer and lost control of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero he was driv ing, causing the vehicle to roll. A passenger, 39-yearold Jarod Easterberg, of Plainville, was transported by ambulance to Rooks County Health Center. The vehicle was totaled. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts.

On Tuesday, March 10, at 9:50 p.m., David Earl Porter, age 65, from Beloit, was traveling east on U.S. 24 near 5 Rd., driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander, when he struck a deer. Neither he nor his two passengers were injured, but the front and passenger sides of the vehicle were damaged.
