At about 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2021, Carl Fugate, 63, of Beloit was traveling east on U.S. 24 when he hit a deer near 3 Terrace. He and his passenger, Mary Fugate, were both wearing seatbelts, and no injuries were reported. The 2019 Ford Expedition he was driving sustained damage to the left front corner but was driveable.

At around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 1st, Mark Robert Axelson, 34, of Plainville, was eastbound on V Road near 30 Rd., when he swerved to miss a deer but struck a rock pile in the roadway. The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, reported that sun glare was a contributing factor to the accident in addition to the rock piled on the side of the road due to road maintenance. The 2020 Chevy Silverado Axelson was driving was disabled on the front passenger side and had to be towed due to damage.

Variety of accidents make up this week’s accident report

On August 29, 2021, at 9:25 p.m., Sharon Kim, 25, of Teaneck, N.J., was westbound on Highway 24 near 22 Rd., when she struck a deer. The driver and two passengers, 25-year-old Angela Hahn and Janice Kim, 26, were not injured. The 2017 Hyundi Kim was driving was damaged on the front and driver’s side.

A cow, some deer, and backing up incidents in July

On June 29, 2021 at about 1:15 p.m., Larry Lee Kibbee, age 59, of Hays, was northbound on 22 Rd. near O Rd. when he struck a cow. Minor damage occurred to the front right headlight area of the 2012 Freightliner semi truck Kibbee was driving. Kibbee was wearing his seatbelt. The cow is alive and well, and so is the driver of the semi.

Deer continue to rule accidents in area

On Tuesday, May 25, a little after 7:30 a.m., Nick Lowe, 69, of Stockton, was backing out of a parking space on South 2nd St. and hit the back end of a 1997 Ford Taurus owned by Kendall Byfield. Only minor damage occurred to both vehicles.

Oh, Deer! Not again, and again...

On April 1st, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Angela Hahn, 40, of Stockton, was heading north on U.S. 183 Highway near K Terrace when she struck a deer. She and her passenger, 15-yearold Coryn Hahn, were properly restrained, and no injuries were reported. The driver’s side of Hahn’s 2016 Toyota 4-Runner received damage to the driver’s side and windshield but was drivable.

On February 23, 2021, at 7:45 a.m., Linda McLaughlin, 71, of Stockton, was westbound on U.S. 24 near 16 Rd., driving a school bus owned by USD 271, when she struck a deer on the left front corner of the vehicle. Four students, ranging in ages from 11 to 16, were on board, and no injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained damage to the hood, front light assembly, driver’s side front fender and driver’s door.

On February 6, at 8:40 a.m., Erin Balthazor, age 31, of Stockton, was westbound on K-24 Highway near 8 Road when she struck two deer, resulting in minor damage to the front and passenger side of the 2007 Jeep she was driving. Balthazor was wearing her seatbelt and no injuries were reported.

On December 8, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Victoria Peterson, 62, driving a 2006 Cadillac, was backing out of a driveway near Elm St. and Main, when she oversteered and backed into a 2004 Chevrolet Impala owned by Justin Whitney, which was legally parked. Peterson’s car suffered minor damage on the driver’s side rear quarter panel, and Whitney’s car had damage to the front end. Peterson was properly restrained, and no injuries were reported.
