90 Years Ago

A deal was completed last Friday between Walter Timmons and S. C. Bundil, whereby the latter becomes the owner of the former’s shoe shop in the rear room of the Stockton National Bank building. Walter established this business nearly a year ago and is said to have been doing good business.

Through an oversight in last week’s issue of this paper, the report neglected to mention that Sam Gadd had opened a watch and jewelry repair shop in the Leader Store. Mr. Gadd, being an old-time resident of this city, is very much known over the county as a specialist in his line of work.

Several lodges of Modern Woodmen of the county are making a strenuous drive for new members and the prospects are very birth for a splendid growth.

Addie Cynthia Reeder Feleay passed away peacefully when she closed her earthly career to enter into her eternal reward at the age of 73 years, six months, and three days on January 12th at her daughter’s home.

Probate Judge Case reports that the New Year with the assistance of Dan Cupid has made things lively in weddings. Things had almost become so dull that the judge has about forgotten how to tie the knot.

Licenses issued by the state automobile bureau this year now number 417,725 or approximately 35,000 more than the total number issued during 1922.

The Rooks County Fair opened Tuesday and continues on for the four days. The grounds have been put in shape, the race track and ball grounds have been worked over, the Scott Greater Shows have taken the midway space and are ready for the crowds.

If there is oil under Rooks County, it is going to be found out. Drilling operations are becoming active to the extent that two wells will be sunk, drilling operation proper to start within a short time.

go When a Dodge touring car in which Philo Hammond and Irvin Turnbull, with two girl companions, were riding last Tuesday night overturned, Irvin came out of the accident with a fractured arm. The young men and girls were on their way to Phillipsburg to attend a dance.
