* The Old Fiddlers Contest was a big event, and a large crowd was out to hear them play the oldtime tunes. There were 12 entries, and each played two pieces.

From 15 Years Ago 2011 * Betty Maschka of Plainville was honored for her four years of service as a Senior Companion at the Inservice meeting held in Plainville. Maschka served clients in their homes in Rooks County and had also served individuals in Hays.

* Completion of the new 100-by-100 foot addition to the Schult Homes Corporation plant in Plainville was scheduled for approximately one month, according to general manager L. R.

* The big oil news of the week is the strike made by the Margay Oil Company of Tulsa at their Bemis well, the east offset of the Bemis discovery well. Monday evening, oil was hit at 3,282, and the hole filled up to 2,800 feet in 30 minutes.

What Was Going On 14 Years Ago Thanks to a donation of archery equipment from the National Wild Turkey Federation, Stockton students were enjoying learning a new sport during their Physical Education classes.

* The basketball championship contest was held in Hays, with teams selected from this part of the country competing in the big affair. A number of games were played, and the Plainville boys stayed right in there to the last and emerged with the championship hanging to their belts.
