Although there doesn't seem to be any lines forming at the county treasurer's office by Rooks County residents in a grand rush to pay their taxes, which became due on November 1st, Mrs. Edna Lambert reports that more tax money was taken in on the first day this year than in 1934. One thousand four hundred and forty-seven dollars and two cents were received this year, while the opening day last year drew only $1,315.34. If taxes are paid in full on or before December 20th, a 2% discount on the second half of the tax is given.

Stockton Grade School student Alayne Harbison placed first in Division III, which encompassed grades six through eight throughout the state of Kansas. The Stockton Medical Clinic's dedication was set for November 13th.

A Phillipsburg powerhouse, taking advantage of the breaks, thundered through the Stockton High School grid machine for a 19 to 6 victory last Friday evening. Stockton residents who drove to Manhattan on Saturday for the Kansas State-Nebraska football game were rewarded with a thrilling battle.

The annual FFA Goblin’s Glory was scheduled for the weekend with its soup supper, costume contest, parade, auction, and games ready for everyone to enjoy. The construction of Stockton Estates was progressing swiftly, with most of the framework in place.

Work started this week on a new, modern duplex apartment house for Stockton. It is being built by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hageman just west of their residence on South Second Street. It will be made of stucco, and the size is 28x40. The building will face west. Each apartment will contain three rooms, with Mrs. J. A. Maris occupying the northern apartment. William Westlaufer of Glen Elder, who has charge of the construction, says it will be completed within three months.
