I made this story up for my sweet Sadie when she was little and it became her bedtime story. And even though I printed it in my editorial years ago, I thought it would be nice to do it again. I hope you all enjoy it.

Little Sadie Star was very sad. There was going to be a contest that very afternoon to see who was the brightest star in Heaven. Whoever won the contest would get to shine down over the stable in Bethlehem on Christmas day to light the way for the shepherds and wise men to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Sadie knew she could never win because she was the smallest star in Heaven. So to cheer herself up, and knowing that none of the other stars would miss her since they were all shining themselves up for the contest, she decided to go down to Earth and take a peek at the Baby Jesus.

Jumping from cloud to cloud and sliding down some rainbows and riding on the wind, she swiftly made her way to the stable.

The barn animals had gathered closely around the Child, which made Sadie have to push and shove her way to the front so she could see His precious face. And that is when Jesus turned his head and seemed to smile right at her!

Sadie smiled back at Him and felt something warm start to flutter inside her tummy and she thought, “Here is a small Child and He is going to make such a big difference in the world that maybe being small doesn’t matter at all because it is what is inside and what a person does that counts.”

That warm feeling in her tummy stayed with Sadie when she flew back to Heaven and entered the contest. When she was lined up with the rest of the stars, Sadie glowed so brightly that the judges had to put on sunglasses! Of course, Sadie won the contest.

So Sadie took her rightful place in the sky that first Christmas night because that warm feeling in her tummy was her love for the Child Jesus shining out for everyone to see.

With each passing year, Sadie’s love for Jesus grows and grows, and she shines brightly in the night sky every Christmas Eve to remind every nation of the gift of Christ’s love.

Merry Christmas!
