Drilling on the Shoemaker and Hess well on the Stebbins land has been resumed. They are drilling ahead about 1,500 feet.

Facing the best outlook for a wheat crop they have seen in several years, the farmers of Rooks County have turned their thoughts toward harvest, and this week will see several commence binding. Some headers are also expected to get in the fields within the next few days.

The most important news of the week was the strike made by the Jones Drilling Company on the Wm. Solomon Ranch, 15 miles southwest of Plainville, with a hit in the silicious lime at 3,629-32 and filling the hole to 2,600 feet in 24 hours.

Shoemaker and Hess, on the Stebbins land about six miles southeast of Stockton, have set the big pipe and are drilling below 500 feet. Rooks County now has eight active drilling tests at two locations, with one location having the rig up.

Three firms in Stockton have been in continuous existence for more than 50 years, according to a recent survey by John B. Smith, Chamber of Commerce secretary. Ten firms have been in business for more than 30 years, and three for more than 25 years.

E. G. Swank & Sons, owners of the Nova Theatre here, acquired their second show house on Monday when they closed a deal for the Atwood Theatre. They will assume management of it on June 21st. Mr.

The many friends of John Smith were much pleased yesterday evening when they learned he had been elected second vice president of the state association of funeral directors at the meeting held in Wichita.

Within the next two weeks, drilling is expected to start on another oil test well near Stockton. It is located in the northeast corner of section 26-7-17 on the E. C. Stebbins land. J. A. Shoemaer of Wichita is making the location, and R. E. Hess is the contracting driller.

Two more oil wells will soon be drilled in Rooks County. Heimerich and Payne have made a location and have the cellar dug for their test on the Bedard estate land just west of Zurich.
