Fire call, but not for a fire

A fire call went out over the radio on Thursday morning, June 10th at approximately 9:05 a.m. to the Woodston Fire Department. A second call for mutual aid to the Stockton Fire Department went out at 9:12 a.m. to help with a large spill of anhydrous ammonia east of Woodston. The deliveryman had been filling the tanks when one of the hoses blew off, caus-ing a large spill across Highway 24. The Rooks County Sheriff’s Department and Highway Patrol sent in additional help to block off the highway for part of the morning. The deliveryman was taken to the Rooks County Health Center.
