Phone: 785-994-6370 (home) or 785-476-5206 (cell) I dearly hope we are complaining about mud when we read this week's paper. The ice on the chicken's water was not necessary this week, but we did not have any frost damage that I can notice.

Our relationships here on earth play a tremendous part in lives. Our relationships with our family, our friends, our co-workers, our church family, or even members of our community as a whole, are all important and say a lot about what we put into it. That being said, there is no relationship that is more important than the one you have with Jesus Christ.

HOW GOOD IS GOOD ENOUGH? The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 3:12,'thereisnonegood.' I was talking recently with someone who told me of a person who was an atheist. However, this atheist was a really good person. In fact, they were so good that they gave a body part away to an unknown person who had a serious need for it. Then came the question. 'Even though that person is an atheist, won't God see their goodness and forgive them?' My response was, 'Well, how about we look at an example from the Bible.' Can you think of someone in the Bible who was genuinely a good person? The one who came to my mind was Nicodemus. He was a Pharisee. He therefore was a stickler for keeping all of God's laws. It was Jesus who revealed that scribes and Pharisees even paid tithes of their 'mint and anise and cummin' (Matt. 23:23). In other words, again, they were real sticklers for obeying God and therefore they tithed of the herbs and spices in their gardens. Nicodemus was also a member of the Sanhedrin— a group of 70 men plus the High Priest. They served as the Supreme Court of Israel. These men were the best of the best in society. They were very highly respected among the people. Plus Nicodemus was apparently the best and most respected teacher of the Old Testament Law in his generation. In short, there was no one more highly respected within the Jewish culture than Nicodemus. He truly was the best of the best. He was a genuinely good man. When Nicodemus came to Jesus at night, as recorded in John 3, the Lord essentially told him, 'Nicodemus, I know that you're the best of the best. I know that you're a good man. I know that you're generous toward others. I know that you strive to keep God's Law. However, despite the fact that even I respect you and appreciate how good you are, you're not even close to being good enough for heaven. Even you, Nicodemus, must be born again!' Only Jesus was infinitely good enough to pay for sin.

Stockton third-grade classes learn about their community

Body
The Stockton thirdgrade students of Ms. Brooke Werner and Mrs. Martha Fleck recently learned about communities in their respective classrooms. The Project Based Learning (PBL) umbrella question was, “How do the services in our community make our community a better place to live?” Their ultimate goal from this lesson was to write articles for the newspaper about what they learned about our community.
THETHIRD-GRADE STUDENTS from Stockton Grade School recently visited the Rooks County Courthouse where they interviewed the department heads of the various offices. The students enjoyed meeting the people who work there and seeing some of the offices. Rooks County Attorney Danielle Muir even let them tour the courtroom, explaining who sits where and what they each do in the court, which was a great learning experience. The articles they wrote from their visit appear in this week’s issue of the Sentinel. The District Court

Body
Have you ever thought about the District Court and what it does? This is the information we got from Lindsey Mongeau. She’s worked for the district court for 10 years. First, it’s called a district court because it represents a district of Kansas. This includes the four counties Ellis, Trego, Rooks, and Gove. The people who work in the District Court include 2 district judges, 3 magistrate judges, 1 court reporter, 2 judges assistants, 4 clerks, 8 deputy clerks, and community corrections. Some of the jobs of the District Court are to file paperwork, schedule hearings, and process marriage licenses. The services they provide are self help and legal forms. The technology they use has changed over the years and allowed them to go paperless. They use computers, scanners, and reporting systems. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the courthouse.
