TOPEKA—The leader of a small group of self-described satanists and at least one other person were arrested on Friday, March 28th, following a scuffle inside the Kansas Statehouse arising from an effort by the group’s leader to start a “black mass” in the rotunda. About 30 members of the Kansas City-Area Satanic Grotto, led by its president, Michael Stewart, rallied outside the Statehouse for the separation of church and state.

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS—According to the United States attorney, a federal grand jury in Kansas returned an indictment charging a Nebraska contractor for allegedly defrauding customers across multiple states by failing to construct buildings after being paid. According to court documents, Bobby Bates, Sr., 42, of Grand Island, Nebraska, is charged with two counts of wire fraud.

Two Hays eighth-graders participate in the Olympic Development Program for soccer


HAYS—Two Hays Middle School students were selected to help represent the Kansas soccer team for the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Interregional in Memphis, Tennessee, on the February 15th weekend. Jack Schumacher and Mason Shadley are in the eighth grade at HMS. Only 18 students from Kansas were selected for the ODP all-star team. (Hays Post)

Tri-Union Seafoods of El Segundo, California, recalled certain lots of tuna sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brand names, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

Geary County Clerk Courtney Gilbert said that the petition states the grounds for recall and is being provided to County Attorney Krista Blaisdell to determine if the grounds are valid and align with legal statutes.
