Marjorie Mae (Workman) Jones of Plainville passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kan. at the age of 89.

She was born on March 17, 1932 in Plainville to Harry and Viola Ruth (Henrie) Workman. Marjorie lived her entire life in the Plainville area. She graduated from Plainville High School in 1949.

On November 29, 1950, she married James F. “Jimmy” Jones. They were blessed with four children: Marly, Douglas, Michael and Jolene. They farmed and raised cattle and pigs throughout their life together until Jimmy passed away November 1993.

Betsy “Betty” Jane (Sell) Cunningham, age 85, entered into her eternal home on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021.

Judy Kaye Schindler, 73, passed away March 6, 2021, at her home in Great Bend.

She was born on November 18, 1947, at St. Elmo City, Ill., to Emerson and Mildred (Koberlein) Campbell.

A long-time Great Bend resident, Judy was a waitress and she had previously worked for Esfeld Engineering for 17 years. She enjoyed dancing and Wheel of Fortune. She especially loved spending time with her family and lived for them.

Gerald Wayne Doerfler, age 81, Codell, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Rooks County Health Center.

Leo J. “Jay” Russell passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at his home in Natoma at the age of 85.

He was born on December 24, 1935 to James and Ruth (Selbe) Russell in Ellis. He was united to Vesta (Hrabe) Shannon on November 10, 1968. The couple was blessed with a son, Chris.

Ralph Gerard Thummel, age 62, of Hays, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021, at his home. 

He was born April 28, 1958, in Plainville, Kansas to John and Ruth (Hoff) Thummel. He married Wanda (Deges) Thyfault on June 5, 1987, at Hays, Kansas.

He graduated from Plainville High School in 1976, before earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music at Wichita State University. He then earned a bachelor’s in Accounting at Fort Hays State University.

Helen Marie Breckenridge, age 93, of Independence, Mo., peacefully left this earthly life on March 1, 2021, surrounded by family.

Helen was born October 21, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri to Vena and Lester Jones.

A Memorial Service for former Woodston and Norton resident, Velma Mae Grimes, age 89, Westmoreland, has been set for Saturday, March 20th, 2021, at the Woodston United Methodist Church beginning at 1:00 p.m.

She passed away Monday, December 21, 2020, at the Onaga Community Hospital in Onaga.

Velma was born on November 28, 1931, at home in Paradise Kansas, the daughter of ArneyLee and Maude Louise (Dwinelle) Hoopes.  

Shannon Lee (Stagner) Larsen, age 73, Plainville, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2021, at her daughter's home.
