At the Stockton City Commission meeting held on Tuesday, February 20th, the commissioners reviewed the city code, Ordinance 588, and the state regulations for propane tanks within the city limits. Since there are some slight differences between the two, mainly dealing with the size of the tanks, the commissioners will get legal opinions. City manager Kayla Hilbrink will also attain more information from the League so the commissioners can revise the codes as needed.

The Stockton Sentinel finally has its 2024 New Year’s Baby! Pretty miss Rebekah Kay made her entrance into the world on Tuesday, January 30th to happy parents Holly and Luke VanSkike, and proud big sisters Katie (7) and McKenzie (4). Rebekah was born at the Hays Medical Center.

Deer, deer, and more deer, wintry weather road conditions, a hit-and-run, a vehicle losing control, and a twovehicle and three-vehicle accident in Stockton make up this week's accident reports. Fortunately for all those involved, no injuries were reported, and the drivers were properly restrained during the accidents.

The first order of business for the Rooks County Commissioners on Tuesday, February 13th, was a meeting with noxious weed supervisor Mike Klein. The commissioners signed the 2024 Management Plan and the annual Noxious Weed Eradication Progress Report, as presented by Klein.

Hays attorney Curtis Brown has filed for the office of 23rd Judicial District Judge. He is seeking the Republican nomination in the August primary.

The Stockton FFA Meats Judging contest was held in Grinnell on Saturday, February 3rd, at the Grinnell Locker. When it was all judged and done, the Stockton FFA Senior team AND Greenhand team placed first in both divisions! The Greenhand team placed individually as follows: Mia Odle, placed first, Kolby Dix placed second, Skylar Amlong placed fourth, Shae Yohon placed fifth, and Brenna Odle placed seventh.

Congratulations to the Stockton FFA Public Speaking Individuals for their placings at the recent Northwest District FFA Public Speaking Contest at Fort Hays State University! Winners were (Division 1) Mia Odle placing second, Brenna Odle placing third, Shae Yohon placing fourth, Kolby Dix placing fifth; (Division 3) Jaxon Dunlap placing second, Rivver Long placing third, Jack Gasper placing fourth, and (Division 4) Rachel Dryden placing third and qualifying for State!.

At the regular Stockton USD 271 Board of Education meeting held on Monday, February 12th, many parents and citizens of the town attended the meeting when the grade school teachers gave an overview of the Tang math curriculum the teachers use in the lower grades. Each teacher spoke on different aspects of the five-year program adopted in 2020, noting that it got a slow start due to the Pandemic. The teachers spoke on how the program is userfriendly, how it is easily accessible on the website, how to use the data, the cost of the program, how they have access to every single standard and all the lessons, live lessons, and how it is designed to meet the needs of every student.
