Hello from Topeka.

We will be at first adjournment this week, then off for two weeks, and come back to finish work on the budget, look at what bills the Governor will veto, and see if action will be taken to override. So here are a few of the highlights from the last week:

Jack Edward Hilgers, Jr., age 77, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.

He was born on November 4, 1945, in St. Louis, MO to Jack and LaVerne (Leuthauser) Hilgers, Sr.

Carmelita M. Pomeroy, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

Carmelita (Wedman) was born December 19, 1932, in Danville, Kansas, the daughter of Francis & Laura (Oliver) Wedman, where she was raised on a farm and grew up with seven siblings.

She married Carl Pomeroy on November 26, 1951, in Danville. They lived in Stockton, Kansas, briefly before moving to Garden City in 1967. They have lived in Garden City and Lakin since.
