Carmelita M. Pomeroy

Carmelita M. Pomeroy, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

Carmelita (Wedman) was born December 19, 1932, in Danville, Kansas, the daughter of Francis & Laura (Oliver) Wedman, where she was raised on a farm and grew up with seven siblings.

She married Carl Pomeroy on November 26, 1951, in Danville. They lived in Stockton, Kansas, briefly before moving to Garden City in 1967. They have lived in Garden City and Lakin since.

A homemaker, Carmelita was a wonderful mother and fantastic cook and loved to spend her time cleaning, gardening, fishing, camping, and enjoyed going to the casino. She loved little children who were the light of her life.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City and the Altar Society.

Survivors include her three children Carolyn (John) Shanley of Thornton, Colo., Marilyn Tucker of Garden City, and Michael (Diane) Pomeroy of Newton; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Carmelita is preceded in death by her husband, Carl, who died on December 7, 201; a son-in-law George Tucker; five brothers, Bob Wedman, Donald Wedman, Gerald Wedman, Dennis Wedman, and Dale Wedman; and two sisters, Mary Kathryn Moritz and Julia Ann Moritz.

A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
