During a special meeting of the Rooks County Fair Board on Tuesday, July 14th, the Fair Board members made the hard decision to move to a 4-H Fair Only and Livestock Sale this year due to COVID-19. This means no commercial side to the fair or any grandstand events.

The July PRIDE award winners have been announced and are as follows: Steve and Sharell Hilbrink for Residence of the Month (417 South Second), and J-Mart for Business of the Month (South Highway 183). Congratulations to this month’s winners!

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) rescinded a nitrate advisory for the City of Stockton Wednesday last week just about as quickly as it was announced. The advisory was issued because of field test high nitrate levels in the system.

Governor Laura Kelly signed Executive Order #20-59 on Monday and shared the details for Executive Order #20-58. Executive Order #20-58 can only be signed if the Kansas Board of Education votes to approve her order.

 Due to continued uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, the Hansen Museum Board has come to the difficult decision to cancel the 47th Annual Hansen Arts & Crafts Fair as well as the Museum’s 5k Run and 2 Mile Walk scheduled for August 15, 2020.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), in conjunction with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT), has issued its list of public health advisories for Kansas lakes due to blue-green algae. Warning

As of Wednesday morning, the nitrate advisory on the City of Stockton's water has been rescinded. According to water superintendent Jon Voss, it appears to have been an instrumentation error. "Our meter was reading high, but after taking the sample to Topeka, it tested fine," said Voss.

The Rooks County Free Fair Board met in special session this Tuesday, at 8:00 p.m. at the Rooks County 4-H Building. A discussion was held by the board members on whether or not there would be a regular Fair as in years past due to COVID-19.
