This Thursday morning, May 28th, the manhole cover to the storm sewer located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24 (Stockton's Main Street) and Elm Street collapsed under the weight of the constant traffic on the highway throughout the years. J Corp of Hays was contracted to repair the damage.

Rooks County significantly loosens COVID-19 restrictions

While a number of counties in Kansas have completely lifted COVID-19 restrictions in Kansas, Rooks County made it official Thursday morning that restrictions have been loosened significantly, but not completely.

A new plan, containing two phases, was revealed in a Facebook post Thursday morning, with the following recommendations.

Phase 1, which immediately went into effect, allows all businesses in the county to reopen with a maximum number of 90 people allowed to gather.

No decision made following teleconference call with Rooks County officials

Through a teleconference call, the Rooks County Commissioners met with several public health figures on Wednesday evening regarding restrictions the county has in place for the COVID-19 pandemic.

An open discussion was held, but no decisions were made until at least tomorrow (Thursday, May 28th). The commissioners are expected to receive a recommendation from Dr. Jennifer Brull, Rooks County Health Center, and Lori Eichman, with the Rooks County Health Department.

The Kansas Department of Transportation announces approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects in Kansas. The letting took place April of the bids may include 22, 2020, in Topeka. Some multiple projects that on proximity and type of have been bundled based work.

Resignations and contracts approved at special board meeting

A special meeting of the Stockton Unified School District No. 271 Board of Education was held on Thursday, May 21st in the District Office. After the school board members, superintendent Bill Lowry, grade school principal Stacey Green and high school principal Gary McCown went into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel relating to resignations, supplemental contacts, certified staff and classified staff, they returned to the open session with no further discussion.
