Power outages experienced in and around Stockton

Electricity is a convenience we are all accustomed to and take for granted... that is until we’re left without it. Such was the case early Thursday morning, June 25th and again around 5:00 p.m. the same day when Stockton and rural areas covering most of western Rooks County were left without power.

STOCKTON CITY EMPLOYEES Harley Miller, Doug French and Jeff Scott look on as the new transformer is placed onto the cement pad by the electric department building. Stockton had lost power on Thursday, June 25th, and it was discovered that the transformer had to be replaced. This was done on Saturday, June 27th.

IN SPITE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND BAD WEATHER, a few members of the VFW Post 8873 Ladies Auxiliary posted the colors on the Avenue of Flags and at the memorial at Stockton City Cemetery Monday, May 25th. Ladies Auxiliary President, Debbie Schellinger, presented the wreaths of emblems of eternity to immortalize the brave deeds of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines, who have given their lives on land, on sea and in the air. RCH staff member tests positive for Coronavirus

Rooks County Health Center (RCH) is reporting that an employee has tested positive for to the novel coronavirus which can cause COVID-19.

On Tuesday, April14 an RCH employee began feeling unwell during their shift even though the employee had no symptoms when they went through the screening protocol when they arrived for work.

Main Street Beautification Project discussed at City meeting

At the Stockton City Commission meeting, held on Tuesday, March 17th, Stockton Chamber Director Jayne Prockish met with the commissioners to present suggestions for the Main Street Beautification Project. A committee comprised of Jayne Prockish, Sally Lowry, Julie Kriley, Julie Hahn and Denae Odle has been working on plans for the three business blocks of Main Street. A grant will be applied for to help with the cost to install planters at various locations on the sidewalks now that the trees have been removed. The use of native grasses, shrubs and perennial flowers will be incorporated. The committee will visit with the business owners as they move forward with the plans. The commissioners noted that they will approve matching funds for the project as discussed.
