A special meeting of the Stockton Unified School District No. 271 Board of Education was held on Wednesday, May 22nd, with the Board members first approving the selling of Buses 24 and 21 on Purple Wave and to purchase a 53-passenger bus with added purchased storage.

Prairie Heritage to hold Open House on June 1

Prairie Heritage Auction and Real Estate in Plainville will be holding a Collectible Auction beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, at Auction City Limits in Plainville. Prior to the event, an Open House to view the wide variety of collectibles items to be up for auction will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at ACL.

Veterans and their sacrifices remembered on Memorial Day

In his annual address during the Memorial Day services at the Stockton City Cemetery on Monday, May 27th, veteran and VFW Post 8873 Quartermaster John Berkley spoke as follows: “Memorial Day was created in 1868 to honor military personnel who lost their lives during the Civil War. It was later expanded to honor all military personnel who have died in service to their country. We have unofficially used it to honor all military personnel who have served their country honorably. This reminds us of the sacrifices made to [protect and preserve our rights and our way of life.

Stithem is county’s Spelling Bee Champion

Stockton Grade School eighth-grade student Bodye Stithem was crowned the Rooks County Spelling Bee Champion on Friday, January 29th at Palco Grade School. Bodye won by correctly spelling the word, “knickerbockers” after going head-to-head against second-place finisher Cayden Klein from Sacred Heart Grade School for several rounds.

Say hello to Brooke Wiles, Stockton’s new English teacher

Stockton’s new English teacher is Brooke Wiles, who will be teaching English at the high school level. Brooke hails from a small town in New Hampshire about an hour’s drive from Boston. She gradated high school from Goffstown in 2009, and received her degree in English and secondary education at Keene State with the class of 2014.
BROOKE WILES will be teaching high school English at Stockton. She is ready to meet the students, and get involved in school and community activities.

Stockton Fire Department receives donation from Stockton Rodders, Inc.

At the Stockton City Commission meeting held on Tuesday, August 4th, the commissioners met with Dean Kester with the Stockton Rodders, who was present for the session to present a check to the Stockton Fire Department in the amount of $3,238.44. Fire chief Jon Voss was there to accept the donation. Kester thanked the City for its continued support of the annual Swing Into Summer Cruise Night and Car Show. Next year, the car club will be making its annual donation to the Stockton EMS.
