WHY ME LORD? Has it ever seemed like your life is falling apart? Maybe you're there right now. None of us enjoy trials. I like what God teaches us in James 1:2 'My brethren count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.' God isn't saying we should enjoy the pain of trials, but rather that we can rejoice knowing He is strengthening our faith through the trials of life. Notice that God says 'when' trials come, not 'if' they come. Trials happen. Even the Lord Jesus suffered hatred, rejection, affliction, and crucifixion. The word 'fall' has the idea of falling into a situation in which you're surrounded. The same word is used of a man who 'fell among thieves' (Luke 10:30) which implies he was surrounded by thieves with no hope of escape. Have you ever felt like that? Have you ever felt surrounded by troubles and trials? Satan can certainly fence us in, but the good news is that he can't put a roof over us. We can always look up to God, who's always looking down on us! As the old hymn says, 'His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.' If the Lord doesn't forget a sparrow (Luke 12:6), will He forget those who have trusted His Son?
