World War II Veterans from northcentral Kansas were honored at the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. on September 10, 2008. U.S. Representative Jerry Moran posed for group and individual pictures and spent the day with the heroes. Moran’s father was one of the members on this Honor Flight.

I caught up on my ironing.” Jake Jaros: “I certainly hope the sun keeps on shining so the rest of my tomatoes can get ripe.” Gardner Rogers: “I’ll tell you one thing, Kansas raises bigger weeds than Texas.” Mabel McCaslin: “My opinion is that the astronauts were a lot safer up there 850 miles above earth than they would be in a car going between here and Salina.” Chuck Hageman: “It’s too bad our team isn’t the Roosters, then we could call our booster club, the ‘Rooster Boosters.’” * The Chamber of Commerce had announced that Peanut Day was set for October 22nd. The first such event was held the year before and proved to be an enormous success with the exception of the fact that the peanuts ran out.
