Night of Worship this Sat., June 7th
Please plan to gather at the table for a meal and fellowship at the Stockton Methodist Church of Restoration’s “Night of Worship” (N.O.W.) at 6:00 p.m.
Then, stay and enjoy the music of Cody Jarvis at 6:30 p.m. Cody is from Phillipsburg and has experienced many tough times with addictions throughout his life.
However, with God’s help and the support of others, he has been able to turn his life around.
He spent many years fighting his demons and justified his drug habit with his passion for playing guitar by comparing his life choices to big-name performers who are into drugs.
He sought out treatment when his son was born in 2012, but he only stayed sober for a year and ten months. Then he stopped going to meetings and started using again every day within a week.
He continued in this way until he ended up on probation and was in jail six times in one year in different places. While he was on probation, it all came crashing down: he was alienated from his family, his finances were devastated, and he had a warrant out for his arrest. So he had a friend drive him to treatment in O’Neil, Nebraska, on May 4th, 2016, with no intention of staying in treatment.
He just wanted to get the law off this back. But while in O’Neil, Cody had a spiritual experience. He also attributes his time working in Salina at a sober living house and renovating motels overseen by a former addict who wanted to help people like Cody fight their addictions.
Cody summed up the last seven years of his life, stating he has recommitted his life to Christ and has stayed active in recovery around the area, carrying this message to other addicts. “No matter how far down you go, there is always hope.”
Cody now plays his guitar and sings, primarily in churches, and occasionally gives talks to school kids and other groups.
Come listen to his songs and message this Saturday night.
