The Sentinel-Times is excited to announce that readers can now look forward to a weekly dose of humor and insight from accomplished cartoonist Dutch, creator of the popular cartoon “Fence Posts.” Dutch, who hails from Missouri along the Mississippi River, brings a lifetime of artistic passion and storytelling to his work.

Dutch’s journey to becoming a cartoonist is as colorful as his illustrations. Despite failing art in high school, he got his first cartoon published in a trade magazine at just 15. His artistic ambitions persisted through a stint in the military— where he learned the electrical trade—but he continued submitting cartoons to various publications. His first regular cartooning gig came at a small Alaskan newspaper, the Kodiak Fish Wrapper and Litter Box Liner.

After leaving the military, Dutch worked as a utility lineman in Wyoming, climbing poles by day and cartooning by night, even drawing courtroom scenes for newspapers and television. Eventually, his growing list of clients enabled him to choose cartooning full-time, a path he’s followed ever since. These days, Dutch creates his cartoons from a home studio surrounded by farmland, drawing inspiration from rural life. Sentinel-Times readers can now enjoy a new “Fence Posts” cartoon every week, offering unique perspectives and laughs for the whole community.

Stay tuned each week in the Sentinel-Times for Dutch’s latest cartoon on Page 2A, and discover why his work has delighted readers across the country.
