Exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, August 6th
All Rooks County registered voters are urged to exercise their right to vote in the primary election on Tuesday, August 6. Please bring a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, to the polls.
The primary will narrow the field of candidates to one from each party (Democrat and Republican) for each office.
Your primary ballot will contain only the candidates for your registered party.
There are three contested races on the national/state/ county level on the Republican side of the ticket.
There are no contested races on the Democratic side.
Rooks County Commissioner District 2
Three Republican candidates are vying for Rooks County Commissioner District 2, currently held by John Ruder of Plainville. Ruder decided to refrain from seeking reelection after holding the position for several terms on two occasions. Those candidates include Ernest Hammerschmidt, Jake Brown, and Tracy Rudman, all of Plainville.
US State House of Representatives
For the US State House of Representatives, District 1, Republican incumbent Tracey Mann, Salina, will be facing a challenger in Eric Bloom, Republican, Lawrence.
Kansas State Senate District 36
For Kansas State Senate District 36, Republican Incumbent Elaine Bowers, Concordia, is running against Republican Robert Bonanata of Russell. The 36th Senate district is one of 40 in the Kansas Senate. Bowers has held the seat since 2013. It is the most Republican-leaning Senate district in the state.
