* Thank you, and God bless USA Olympic first-and second-place hammer throwers Deanna Price and Brooke Anderson for standing on the podium with your hands over your hearts during the Star-Spangled Banner at the Olympic track and field tryouts.

* It’s one week closer to October!! And just so you know this is why Halloween ranks right up there as one of the best holidays: You are not obligated to visit any of your relatives; You don’t have to buy gifts for anyone; And people give you lots of free candy!

* Just saying, the speed limit is definitely different when you are listening to a Van Halen song.

* I LOVE going to the Tiger Shark swim team events this summer! What a wonderful family sport and community atmosphere. Before the meet, tents are set up around the perimeter of the pool, with family and friends sporting their Tiger Shark shirts, camped out underneath. The swimmers have their numbered events written on their arms, and they all pay close attention when the announcer calls them into the holding area. Everything runs like clockwork with the Stockton crowd cheering on those girls and boys who take to the water like fishes and mermaids, or more appropriately, sharks! And when they are waiting for their next event, the kids take turns camping out underneath any of the Stockton family tents. This is a sport the entire family can participate in since they can start swimming around the age of five or six and continue throughout their high school years and even beyond! Go Sharks!

* Heard a lot of great comments from people about the Main Street flowerpots. They love them, with most of them stating they would like to see more of them along Main Street. Me included!

* Can you believe it is July already? And FYI: Unleaded gas was $2.84 a gallon at the beginning of the month.

* If you had to choose to spend your life in one season would it be spring, summer, fall or winter?

*Here is a way to keep your drinks cold during the summer. If you love iced tea, freeze some brewed tea ice cubes for your drinks. Or better yet, put fruit juice or Kool-Aid ice cubes in cold Sprite or sparkling water.
