Phone: 785-994-6370 (home) or 785-476-5206 (cell) We received a half inch of rain over the weekend after all the warnings of high wind, hail, and tornadoes. I know those things happened in other locations, and more significant amounts of rain fell, like over two inches at Norton and over four inches at Riley.

'Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so.' These are the opening lyrics of a wellknown hymn, often taught to children early in life. It is so important at all times to know that Jesus does indeed love every one of us. What better time to know this than when you are just a child!

As we discussed last week, Jesus made several appearances to the disciples and others after his resurrection. Yet, many still did not understand. Even today, there are those who think they would believe if they could see a definite sign or miracle. But Jesus says we are blessed if we can believe without seeing.

CHASING THE WIND. It sounds pretty morbid. However, King David's son, Solomon, commanded in 1 Kings 3:25 - 'Cut the living child in two, and give half to one woman and half to the other!' Of course, the baby was never bifurcated. Due to her motherly love, the birth mother told him to give her child to the lying woman in order to spare its life. Solomon's wisdom is legendary, much of which is seen in Proverbs. However, Solomon also wrote Ecclesiastes, in which he looks back at his life, causing him to despair. He realizes his life has been chasing after the wind (meaningless things). He wrote,' 'Vanity of vanities' says the Preacher; 'Vanity of vanities, all is vanity'' (1:2). The repetition of 'vanity' indicates that Solomon believes his life has been completely and utterly vain, pointless, meaningless—to the highest degree. Out of all the people in history who should have been content in life, one would think it would have been Solomon. He was the wisest, richest, and most famous man of his day. He had everything that money could buy, along with power, fame, great achievements, multiple homes, and 1,000 wives and concubines. Yet it only led him to despair. The whole book of Ecclesiastes focuses on THIS LIFE. This is seen by his use of the phrase 'under the sun' 29 times. It's as if Solomon is saying that this life on earth lived 'under that sun' is all there is and that there's no life beyond this life. He's saying that the grave is going to win, and therefore, life is 'vanity and chasing the wind' (1:14). The same is true today. People think they'll find satisfaction in drugs, alcohol, immoral relationships, money, earthly achievements, popularity, etc. But what Solomon teaches us is that ultimate satisfaction is found only in the ultimate Son of David, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will eternally sit as King of kings on David's throne. So...are we chasing the wind or King Jesus?
