COVID-19 played a role in reduced court cases filed

While there may have been a huge increase in many COVIDrelated statistics, it would appear that the court system saw a decrease in nearly every kind of filing. Not only was the court system basically shut down for an extended period of time, but the number of cases filed diminished, at least in Rooks County. Also, marriage licenses could not be issued in Rooks County during the COVID shutdown, with a decrease of 26 as shown below.

Louis Moses Thyfault was born in Canada February 16, 1843. He immigrated to this country in 1857 and settled in Kankakee, Illinois. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, he enlisted in Co. A, 26th Illinois Infantry Volunteers. A physical description is part of the official record: 5’10” tall, black hair, black eyes, dark complexion, and his marital status is given as “single.” His service occupation is listed as “Teamster”—or the driver of the muledrawn supply wagons so necessary for an army on the march. He was 18 years old at the time.

Parade of Christmas Trees winners announced

The 2020 Parade of Christmas Trees winners have been announced and are as follows (ADULT): Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 8873 placed first; Stockton Recreation Commission and Fitness Center placed second; and The Sunflower Shed—Jayne Prockish placed third; (YOUTH) Mrs. Dunlap’s mentor group placed first; Stockton Grade School Kindergarten class placed second; and Stockton Grade School Preschool classes placed third. Applying for a marriage license in Kansas is now easier and more convenient, thanks to a grantfunded project to move most of the process online. Couples applying for a marriage license in Kansas are now able to complete the application online at www.kscourts.org/marriage.
