Commissioners discuss ARPA funds at meeting

Body
The regular weekly meeting of the Rooks County Commission began with a discussion session that included the three commissioners, John Ruder, Greg Balthazor and Tim Berland, as well as sheriff Gary Knight, treasurer Kim Northup, emergency management director Butch Post and clerk Ruthmary Muir dealing with the ARPA funds the County had received. The total amount of the funds will be $950,000.00. There is no set requirements as yet as to how the funds can be dispersed, so at this time those present talked about hiring an outside agency to administer this second round of funds as they did with the SPARK money. They will also make a list of ideas as to how the money might be able to be utilized using the general outlines as suggested by the government.

Names on the Wall

Body
Recently, I was reminded that some people who are now following this series might have missed the first column that introduced the series. “Names on the Wall” refers to the names of Rooks County Veterans engraved on the Memorial Wall on the east side of the Rooks County Courthouse in Stockton.

Governor Kelly announces July Tax receipts

Body
Governor Laura Kelly announced Kansas’ July tax receipts. In total, Kansas’ State General Fund saw its total tax receipts for July perform $60.0 million, or 11.0%, better than the estimate with $602.6 million collected. Comparing this July’s total tax receipts to the previous July’s would not be a meaningful comparison as last July included receipts from tax returns from the extended filing period.

New electric generator for Stockton

Body
On Tuesday, July 27th, the City of Stockton received the delivery of the new C175-16 Caterpiller Generator Set. The generator is a 4376-brake horsepower V-16 diesel engine which is rated at 3100 kwh per hour. This will cover Stockton’s electric load 95% of the time by itself. This unit is rated for emergency use only. It is a quick start and will improve the City’s response time and reliability, if there is an incoming power outage. The unit should be fully connected and ready for service in late fall to early winter of 2021.
1. HESS CRANE had the monumental task of moving the City’s new generator as close to the building opening as it could get. Since the ten thousand pound battery was not installed at the time the generator was being moved, the weight of the unit was off center making the crane operator slowly move the generator a little at a time before adjusting the chains until it was successfully set down on rollers for the next phase of the installment process.
