Our beautiful and talented mother, Wanda Sammons, 94, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 at The Piper in Kansas City, Kansas.

She was born December 11, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to Everett and Vivian (Foster) VanHorn. Wanda spent her young childhood years on a farm near Stockton until her father was elected Rooks County Sheriff and the family moved into town. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1946.

Wanda married her childhood sweetheart, Dee Sammons, on February 24, 1946. They were blessed with three children, Judy, Patty and Van. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, crafting and traveling with Dee to visit family and friends. When she and Dee retired, they built their dream house in Bella Vista, Arkansas where they lived for 24 years before moving to Kansas City in 2013.

Survivors include daughters, Judy (Steve) Schmitter of Wichita and Patty (Bob) Brown of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter-in-law Becky Sammons of Woodstock, Georgia; grandchildren Todd (Terry) Maddux, Randy (Jenny) Maddux , Tamara Perez, Ashley (Zac) Clark, Kimber (Justin) Driggs, Kara (Doug) Haney, Cicely (Don) Stierly, Jorja (Todd) Hale, Sara (Jamie) Ulmer, Jenny (Jason) Callaway, Lori (Paul) Vetter; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law Joan VanHorn.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years on January 10, 2016; her parents; son Van;
and her brother Farrell.

A Memorial Service for Wanda will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2022 at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton.  Inurnment will be in the Stockton Cemetery.
