Thomas “Richard” Yohon, 80, passed away on January 21, 2025, at his home in Stockton.

He was born on September 21, 1944, to Lawrence G. and Margaret (Reedy) Yohon in Iola, Kansas. He married Linda L. Butcher on November 1, 1968, in Iola. They were blessed with four children: Joseph, Debra, Kristen, and Jarrett.

Richard graduated from Yates Center High School in 1962. While in high school, he began working in the oilfields with Steinforth & Sons. He then worked for Cummings Farms in Yates Center until 1965, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving overseas in Germany for nearly two years before continuing his 16 years of service with the National Guard.

After his service in the Army, he worked for Tech Oil and later transferred to Stockton when Damson Oil bought Tesoro Oil in 1984. In 1988, he became the owner and operator of Yohon Pumping, LLC, where he worked for many years.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Yates Center Saddle Club, and St. Thomas Catholic Church in Yates Center. He generously volunteered his time to help cook at pancake feeds and various fundraisers with his dear friend Bob Prockish. Richard also made sure to never miss a veteran breakfast at the school with his granddaughters.

Richard had a love for the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed coyote and coon hunting with his coon dogs, often before attending Christmas Mass! A dedicated fan of KU Basketball, Richard also enjoyed watching the Cowboy Channel in his spare time. Above all, Richard treasured the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home in Stockton; children, Joseph (Cathi Jo) Yohon of Wichita Falls, Texas, Debra (Pat) Menzie of Iola, Kristen (Josh) Maier of Iola, and Jarrett (Tera) Yohon of Stockton;  siblings, Judith “Judy” (Elmer) Diver of Coffeyville, Joseph “Joe” Lawrence Yohon of Newton, and Mary “Eileen” Franke of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Taeler (Joe) Carr, Chance Menzie, Karsyn (Brooke) Norman, Wade (Guirnalda) Yohon, and Tierra, Shae & Lily Yohon; two great-grandchildren, Andersyn and Ainsley Carr; numerous nieces and nephews; beloved pets, Gunner and Rudy; and many close friends he made throughout his years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John David Yohon; and grandson, Flint P. Menzie.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11 a.m., at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Stockton. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 28, from 6-8 p.m., with the family receiving friends at the funeral home. In honor of Richard’s casual spirit and love for comfort, the family invites you to wear blue jeans to his services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Rooks County Cancer Walk or Rooks County Healthcare Foundation and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669.
