Richard Werner
1932 - 2024
Richard Werner, 92, passed away on August 9, 2024, at Via Christi in Hays.
He was born May 25, 1932, in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Nettie (Larson) Werner.
He was united in marriage to Rosella (Garvert) Werner on December 29, 1952, and to the union, seven children were born: Doug, Dave, Rick, Kenneth, Debbie, Jeff, and Rusty. She preceded his death on January 31, 1997. He later married Judy Meitler on February 14, 1998, in Colorado.
Richard attended St. Joseph Military Academy and Plainville High School and later joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas. He retired from Farmland as an oil purchaser. He had a love of planes and was a pilot, and during his time in the Air Force, he worked on planes and served as an instructor.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Plainville.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; six sons: Doug Werner and wife Mary of Fort Scott, Dave Werner of Hays, Rick Werner and wife Karen of Plainville, Kenneth Werner and wife Amelia of Hays, Jeff Werner and wife Sami of Codell, and Rusty Werner and wife Marianne of Codell; one daughter Debra Bruhl and husband Dallas of Salina; brother, Vernon Werner of Flagler, Colo.; sister, Mary Lee (Eddie) Schmidtberger of Pratt; sisters-in-law, Irene Fellhoelter, Loretta Hinca, Lavonne Werner, and Jacki Werner all of Plainville; Judy’s children, Teresa, Gaylene, Kaylene, Rod, and Terry; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
He joins his parents, first wife, Rosella Werner, siblings Joseph Werner, Leonard (Lucille) Werner, Donald (Ann) Werner, and Ronald Werner, sister-in-law Nancy Werner, Kathryn Creevan, and brother-in-law Robert Garvert in his heavenly home.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Plainville. Visitation will be held on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Plainville.
