Edna Bernice Frenzl
1936 - 2025
Edna Bernice Frenzl, age 89, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at her home.
She was born on April 7, 1936, in rural Graham County, Kansas, to Henry and Mable (Rolland) Kolste. She married Lawrence “Larry” Frenzl on August 29, 1952, in Bentonville, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2012.
Edna worked at the Hallmark store on The Mall in Hays and was the store manager for over 35 years. She grew up, attended school in Palco, and worked at her mother’s restaurant. She moved to Hays in 1966 and sold World Book encyclopedias and Fashion Two-Twenty Cosmetics.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a member of the Hays V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #9076. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and gambling trips, as well as her frequent stops at the Hays V.F.W. club room for evening meals and visiting with her V.F.W. family and other friends. She always said she had two families, her V.F.W. family, and her own. Edna’s pride and joy were her grandchildren and her family.
She is survived by her children, Michael Frenzl and wife, Jane Rajewski, Hays, Ronald Frenzl and wife, Donna, Olathe, Susan Miller and husband, Kenneth, Hays, and Betty Hrabe and husband, Kenny, Stockton; her grandchildren, Amy Feldt (Cory); Paul Houser; Sherry Wellbrock (Cory); Shawn Miller (Rebecca); Amber Miller-Peck (Eli); Paul Hrabe; Alicia Post (Derek); her 13 great-grandchildren; her many nieces and nephews; her very special four legged friend “Lucy”; and her Hays V.F.W. family.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mable Kolste; her granddaughter, Ashly Frenzl; her brother, Donald Kolste and wife, Marjorie; her infant brother, Robert Kolste; her sisters, Leona Koller, Betty Lang and husband, Al, Eva Paul and husband, Willard, and Donna Kolste.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Father Nick Parker as Celebrant. A private family inurnment will take place at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas, at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church. Norb Kuhn will lead a Rosary at 10:00 a.m.
