Dorothy “Dora Mae” (Rome) Taylor
1954 - 2026
Dorothy “Dora Mae” (Rome) Taylor, age 71, a former Victoria resident, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Paramount Community Living and Rehab in Newton.
She was born on May 9, 1954, in Hays, Kansas, to Wilmer J. and Valeria (Wittman) Rome. Dorothy married Leonard C. Taylor on May 8, 1976, in Victoria.
She grew up in Victoria and attended school there, and is a former member of Saint Fidelis Church.
Dorothy worked as a housekeeper for many years in private homes and hotels while she and her husband lived in Rapid City, South Dakota, for 20 years. They moved to Newton in 2025.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling the world; she loved New York City and Las Vegas. She attended over seventy concerts; she liked the Moody Blues and Polkas. She enjoyed taking pictures, “you can never have too many pictures, and her favorite color was red. Over the years, she had Saint Bernards, Sir Pierre Jedediah Taylor, Millie Millie, Esmeralda (Emmy), and her best friend, Brutus.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard C. Taylor, of the home; a special niece, “like their own daughter”, Amy Jenkins and Ron, Kearney, Mo.; her sisters, Donna Lovelady and Stan, Plainville, and Betty Hansen and Roger Ferland, Hays; her brother, Randy Rome and Julie Moore Rome, Landisville, Pa.; her brother-in-law, Floyd Windholz, Victoria; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer J. and Valeria Rome; her sisters, Dianne Waldschmidt and Ron; and Sherri Windholz; her sister-in-law, Suzanne Rome; her grandparents, Jacob M. and Eva (Weigel) Rome; and Mike and Anna (Brungardt) Wittman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at The Basilica of Saint Fidelis, 900 Cathedral Ave, Victoria, Kansas, with Celebrant, Father Curtis Carlson O.F.M. Cap. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the church.
Graveside Services and inurnment will be at the Saint Ann’s Cemetery in Walker.
