Charles “Charlie” Arthur Meadows, age 84, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Monday, May 30, 2022. He and his wife Jane were owners of Ackarman Hardware & Lumber for over 25 years. Charlie was born in Caney, Kansas to Ernest R. and V. Naomi (Brown) Meadows on March 2, 1938.

After graduating from Sedan High School and then Emporia State University with a degree in Accounting, Charlie married his high school sweetheart Jane (Wall) Meadows on May 27th, 1960 in Sedan and this year celebrated 62 years of marriage. They made their first home in Hutchinson, Kansas. They lived in Hutchinson for over 25 years. He served in the Army National Guard six years, was active in Junior Chamber and Civitan’s, a member of Grace Episcopal Church and worked as a comptroller for several local companies. He and Jane relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1987 for Charlie to continue his career.

Charlie loved to play golf, working in the yard and traveling with family and friends. In 1996, Charlie and Jane returned to Sedan to become owners of Ackarman Hardware & Lumber. Charlie was active with the Chamber of Commerce. He was a faithful member of Epiphany Episcopal Church serving as a Lay Reader and Treasurer. Twenty-five years later, he sold Ackarman in 2020 and retired to enjoy time with Jane and gardening in his yard.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, of the home; a daughter Sara “Sally” (Meadows) Lowry and husband Mark, Stockton, Kansas; four grandchildren: Zachary Lowry, Washington, D.C., Nolan Lowry, Gladstone, Mo., Catherine Lowry, Manhattan, Kansas and Elizabeth Lowry and great-grandson, Ashton Erdos, Kansas City Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Meadows; his mother Naomi Meadows; and four siblings, Dwayne Meadows, Charlene Chamberlin, Carrie Mae Leslie, and Margaret McAfee.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan with Reverend Kathy Swain, Vicar officiating. Private viewing only. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Charlie was passionate about the community of Sedan and young people returning to the area after education. In lieu of flowers, the family has created a scholarship fund in Charlie’s name to support scholarships to local students attending construction trades.
