Barbara “Barb” Jean Schindler, of Stockton, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, at the age of 77.

She was born on June 26, 1945, to Reuben V. and Neva G. (Hayes) Richardson in Norton, Kansas. Barb married Kermit Schindler on December 3, 1961, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They later divorced. To this union were born three children: Neva, Kermit Jr., and Rena.   

Barb grew up in Glade, where she attended grade school, and in Phillipsburg, where she attended high school. She grew up working in restaurants most of her life and then became a CNA in her later years and enjoyed working activities with the residents.

She was a member of the Christian Church in Stockton after being baptized in the Calvary Church in Phillipsburg as a child.  

Barb enjoyed traveling to see family, trips with her friends, and seeing sights around the United States. She also enjoyed car races, motorcycles, fairs, collecting angels and cardinals, and attending George Strait concerts. She was on a local bowling team and enjoyed evenings at the casino. Barb loved spending quality time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

She is survived by the love of her life, Kermit Schindler Sr. of Stockton; daughters, Neva and Rena, both of Stockton; son, Kermit Jr. of Plainville; siblings, Ronald (Wendy) Richardson of Garden City, Mo., Marcia (Tom) Louis of Dundalk, Md., Patricia Dodge of Stockton, and Roxie Pope of Ellis; step-daughter, Beverly Schindler Wooley of Dorrance; grandson, Athan (Anna Marie) of Bastrop, Texas; grandchildren, Nellie (Brandy) Grimes of Stockton, Miranda McCune and Faith Schindler, both of Plainville, and Bethany Schindler of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Blake, Sam, Ayden, and Harlow; and many extended family members and friends.   

She is preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Neva Richardson; stepdad, Dane Stephenson; mother and father-in-law, Ray (Vera) Schindler; daughter-in-law, Machelle (Brown) Schindler; son-in-law, Mark Wooley; and numerous extended family members.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669. The family will greet friends following the service at the United Methodist Church in Stockton.
