Sandi Nix

Body

Sandi Nix passed away on March 24, 2025, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton at the age of 75.

She was born on July 27, 1949. She was 75 years old and would have turned 76 later this year. In recent years, she battled Alzheimer's or a form of dementia—I'm not sure which diagnosis she had precisely. Many of you may not remember her well, as the last Nix Family Reunion she was able to attend was in 2017 in Hill City, South Dakota. It was shortly after that gathering, she began to show signs of the disease.

Smithfield Farms withdraws request from Rooks County

Body

At the March 25th Rooks County Commission weekly meeting, the commissioners announced that Darin Waylett from Smithfield Farms had reached out to county attorney Danielle Muir. He informed her that they do not intend to proceed with the current proposed boar stud farm project and withdrew their request with Rooks County. The organization also withdrew its application with KDHE at this time. If Smithfield Farms makes a plan to proceed with a different proposal for the project, they will reach back out.
