Dorothy Mae Sutton, 95, Hays, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Brookdale Senior Living.

She was born May 12, 1929, on the family farm near Zurich, the daughter of Albert and Daisy Mae (Sparks) Lowry. Dorothy graduated from Webster High School.

She was united in marriage to Cleo D. Sutton, and four children were born into this union. Dorothy and Cleo opened their home and hearts to more children when she provided daycare and they were foster parents. She also worked at The Style Shop and was a secretary for the Hill City school district.

Her memberships included the Assembly of God Church in Hill City, Home Demonstrators Unit, and Good Sam Club, and she was a Girl Scout and 4-H Leader. 

She enjoyed camping and traveling with Cleo and was a talented seamstress and quilter.

Survivors include her sons, Dan Sutton and wife Darlene of Boise, Idaho, and Kyle Sutton and wife Vivienne of Canyon, Texas; a daughter, Juanita Stegman and husband Tony of Walker; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah Stegman and wife Michelle, Sarah Smith, Megan Marecki and husband Jon, Laura Smith and husband Caleb, Kelsey Sutton, Harley Davidson Sutton, and Jamason Paige Sutton; eight great-grandchildren, AJ Stegman, Miranda Boehnen and husband Chandler, Holden Smith, Penny Smith, Mackenzie Stegman, Zachary Stegman, Rose Smith, and Natasha Smith; and a great-great-granddaughter, Aubrey Stegman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cleo, an infant daughter, Le Etta Elaine, a grandson, Joshua Stegman, her brother, Harold Sparks, and her sister, Rose Marie Pywell.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, with Rev. Christine Wagner officiating. Burial was in Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco.
