AS WE APPROACH THE 146TH ROOKS COUNTY FREE FAIR, this vintage photo showcases the grandstand act of the Swenson Thrillcade, which provided entertainment at the Fair in 1963, 1964, and 1965. The world-famous daredevils captivated audiences with their thrilling, supercharged stunts.

Lorna Lee (Vogel) Green, age 64, of Phillipsburg, passed away Friday evening, July 11, 2025, at Phillips County Retirement Center. 

She was born February 23, 1961, at Phillips County Hospital, the daughter of the late Arnold and Bonnie (Smith) Vogel, of Phillipsburg, Kansas.‍ 

Lorna graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1979. She then attended and graduated from Beauty School in Salina, and years later graduated from NCK Tech of Hays with her LPN License. 

She was a member of the Kingdom Hall and a former nurse, beautician, Mother, and Grandmother.

Joanna M. Normandin, 91, Hays, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025, at Via Christi Village.
