Webster Reservoir remains in Active “Warning” Advisory for blue-green algae

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) issued their latest public health advisory update due to blue-green algae this Friday afternoon, July 7.

Webster Reservoir remains in an Active "Warning" Advisory.

No other area lakes are currently in a “Warning” or “Watch” Advisory.

Kenneth McClure, age 82, of Stockton, died July 5, 2023, at the McPherson Hospital in McPherson.

He was born on August 3, 1940, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Woodrow and Beulah Leota (Meracle) McClure.

Kenneth and his sister, Betty, were raised on the family farm west of Phillipsburg, where he learned the value of hard work.

He attended country school in Phillips County and furthered his education at Phillipsburg High School, joining the US Army soon after his 18th birthday. His Army and Kansas Army National Guard tenure lasted eight years.

Randall R. “Randy” Schmidt

Randall R. “Randy” Schmidt, 67, Hays, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

He was born January 15, 1956, in Hays, the son of Alfred L. and Mary K. (House) Schmidt. While growing up, he attended St. Joseph Grade School, Kennedy Middle School, and Thomas More Prep High School, and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Park College, a master’s degree from Webster University, and attended Oklahoma State University.

Crossroads Quilt Guild

The regular monthly meeting of Crossroads Quilt Guild was held on June 19, 2023, at Stitch and Chatter with 13 members attending. The hostess was Diane Maddy.

A motion was made by Diane Maddy and seconded by Terri Collins to accept the May minutes as read.

A Thank You was read from the Whisman family for Berdena's memorial.

A motion was made by Toni Anderson to approve the Treasurer's Report, given by Diane Maddy. Bertha McGann seconded the motion.  

Sew Days: Plainville had six attending, and no Sew Day was held in Stockton.
