Agnes “Arlene” (Gates) Rogers
1928 - 2023
Former Plainville resident Agnes “Arlene” (Gates) Rogers passed away on February 22, 2023, in Yuma, Ariz., at the age of 94.
She was born on June 22, 1928, to Lewis and Ora (Ellis) Gates in Logan. She married Robert Rogers on December 21, 1951, in Zurich. They had five children: Linda, Kathy, Bob, Connie, and Julie.
Arlene grew up in Norton and graduated from Norton High School in 1946. She worked for the City of Norton before moving to Stockton to work at the city office until her first child was born.
She then was a stay-at-home mom until 1967, when the family moved to Plainville, and Arlene took a part-time job as a bookkeeper with Malin’s Backhoe and Trenching Service until her retirement in the late 1970s.
In addition to caring for her own family, she was the caregiver to her and her husband’s families. Among those she assisted were her mother-in-law, sister, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, husband, children, and grandchildren with births, deaths, financial management, doctor’s appointments, and any other needs they may have had.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Guild, Rooks County Health Center Auxiliary, and Swinging Wheels Square Dance Club. In addition, she created a card club for friends in Plainville and played cards with the Yuma Social Club.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Don) Rice, Surprise, Ariz., Kathy Harrison, Yuma, Ariz., Bob (Sharon) Rogers, Eudora, Connie (Russell) Mills, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Julie (Stan) Rohr, Mission, Texas; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Ora Gates; husband, Robert; four siblings, Doris Eller, Loren Gates, Pauline Elder, and Deloros Bozarth; and her beloved granddaughter, Aryn Rogers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Stockton. Visitation will be on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Plainville, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until the Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.
